The Chesapeake Bay watershed is home to more than 18 million people and 2,700 species of wildlife. Unfortunately, the Bay and many of its rivers and streams are on the EPA's "dirty waters" list. They're not providing a healthy habitat for oysters, crabs, and other aquatic life. The Clean Water Blueprint can reverse this by: 1. Ensuring that everyone shares in the responsibility for cleaning up our waterways; 2. Setting two-year, incremental pollution-reduction goals—known as milestones—to keep progress on track; and most importantly 3. Imposing consequences for failure, ensuring that states and localities meet their responsibilities.
