Plastic pollution of the ocean is well-known for its harmful effects on the marine environment and its inhabitants. Microplastics (pieces less than five millimeters) are increasingly of concern. Join Dr. Fred C. Dobbs, Chair of Old Dominion University’s Department of Ocean, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences for a discussion on plastics, microplastics, and their environmental impact. Dr. Dobbs will consider global budgets of plastic and plastic waste, concerns about ingestion of microplastics, and some known unknowns of microplastics’ effects on organisms, including ourselves. He will conclude with stories from business and science that may improve some of our world’s “plastic overload” and his efforts to reduce the plastic in his life.

Come learn and test your knowledge for a chance to win CBF swag! Be sure to come early for a tour of the Brock Center and some previews.

We're sorry, the deadline for registering for this event has passed.
