Field Trip A: A Tour of Fort Monroe’s historic trees, including the Algernourne Oak, led by local Tree Stewards to capture the environmental and historical significance of these beautiful trees. There will also be time for self-guided exploration of the Casemate Museum.
Field Trip B: Shored Up (a local ecotourism company launched by fellow Clean Water Captains Claire Neubert and Linda Hamm) will lead a walking tour of Downtown Hampton’s waterfront, an area that reveals stories of our rich seafood history and ethnic maritime heritage. Along the way, we will enjoy urban trees, including a Virginia Champion. We will finish with a visit to our oyster gardens at the Hampton City Dock. Oysters and trees, our workhorses for clean water and a restored Chesapeake Bay!
Captains who would like to spend the evening in Hampton can find hotel or campsite accommodations that meet your preferences on the Visit Hampton website.
There will also be an optional kayak tour on Sunday, from 8:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Details will be provided in your registration confirmation email.
