It's that time of the year again! Please return your oysters to us so we can transfer them onto a nearby sanctuary reef. Your oysters have reached adulthood by now and thanks to your hard work, are ready to head off to a new world. Transferring these oysters onto a sanctuary reef in the spring gives them the best opportunity to spawn and help contribute to our native oyster population this year.

We ask that you please return your oysters to us in a reusable container...a bucket, a trash can, an old tub...whatever you have to get them from your garden, to the return location. We will have bushel baskets on hand for you to transfer them into, so you can take your container home and use it again in the fall to pick up fresh spat and restock your cages.

It is important that your oysters go out to a reef nearby the location they have been growing, so please return them to an event relatively close to where your garden is, so we can make sure we get them to the right spot. Please check the event listing to find your optimal location.

COVID-19 Precautions:

  • Fully vaccinated people do not need to wear a mask while attending a CBF event. In line with CDC guidelines, we recommend that unvaccinated people continue to wear a mask and practice physical distancing whenever possible.
  • Social distancing practices will be in place.

Thanks for all of your hard work and dedication taking care of the little fellas over the fall, winter and spring months! Thanks to you, these oysters are ready to join the reef and contribute all they have to offer to the greater health of the Chesapeake Bay.
