REGISTRATION REQUIRED Registration closes May 5, 2022.
This event is for existing Maryland oyster gardeners only.
It's time for oyster returns! Your oysters have reached adulthood by now and, thanks to your hard work, are ready to head off to a nearby reef. It is important that your oysters are planted near where they have been growing. Please review the dates and locations of our oyster return events to register for one relatively close to your garden so we can get them to the best possible reef.
Transferring your oysters to a sanctuary reef in the spring affords the best opportunity for your oysters to spawn and contribute to our native oyster population.
We suggest that you transport your oysters to us in a reusable container. Buckets or trash cans work great to get them to the event. We will have bushel baskets on hand for you to transfer them into, so you can take your container home to use again in the fall to pick up fresh spat and restock your cages.
If you are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19, we strongly recommend that you wear a mask.
Thank you for your work and dedication taking care of your oysters over the fall, winter, and spring months! Thanks to you, these oysters are ready to join the reef and contribute all they have to offer to the greater health of the Chesapeake Bay.
Please feel free to email Kellie Fiala at MDoystergardening@cbf.org with any questions.
