A Right to Nature in the City: The Importance of Urban Environmental Education

Start Date:
Monday, July 13, 2020
End Date:
Friday, July 17, 2020
Location:
Washington, D.C.

Open to all educators grades k-12.
Why do certain parts of D.C. look, and feel different than others? While environmental issues impact us all, often their impact on vulnerable communities is disproportionate. For five days, we will explore a cross section of environmental issues impacting D.C area residents and learn how investigating natural systems can help communities and schools create change for a more equitable future. This virtual course is designed to support DCPS and DCPCS transdisciplinary learning goals, as well as classrooms with students who are eager to understand and impact their city!

Length & Location: 5 days total; virtual
Cost: $50 due to support from local funders.
Credit: Maryland teachers are eligible for 3 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits from MSDE for successful course completion.  D.C and Virginia teachers are eligible for documentation of 45 contact hours for successful course completion.
Pre-Course Orientation date coming soon.
