Do you want to learn more about incorporating inquiry into your classroom and creating Meaningful Watershed Education Experiences (MWEE) for your students? Participants in the Kings Gap Watershed Institute will learn valuable skills that will support engaging outdoor learning experiences through virtual meetings, online learning opportunities, self-guided investigations, online group work, and time for reflection and application. Participants will receive resources, including DCNR’s Watershed Education Teacher’s Manual, and additional materials to help in completion of course assignments and are asked to complete a MWEE 101 online course prior to the start of the institute. Successful completion of the course and final project will qualify participants for a $550 stipend and access to funding for help in implementing an action project as part of their MWEE. Final project specific dates and deadlines will be provided by the course leaders.This institute is being offered at a low cost through a partnership with Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (NOAA Bay Watershed Education Training grant NOAA-NMFS-NCBO-2018-2005490).  

Length & Location:  5 days total; 3 virtual, 2 in person. These days will be followed by an in-person day of investigation at Kings Gap Environmental Center on October 10th, 2020; rain date October 11th, 2020, and a Spring 2021 paddle and investigation of a local waterway.
Cost: $50 due to support from local funders.  
Credit: Pennsylvania teachers are eligible for 45 Act 48 credit hours (27 for 3 virtual days; 9 for each in person day)  for successful course completion plus 3 additional ACT48 hours for completion of MWEE101 online course.
