Exploring Placed Based Watershed Education in the Charlottesville Region

Open to Charlottesville area educators, grades k-12.  
How does the Charlottesville area relate to the Chesapeake Bay? Teachers from the Charlottesville area will investigate Charlottesville and the surrounding waters and land to understand its connection to the Chesapeake Bay. This course will focus on place-based education and help guide teachers on integrating environmental stewardship into their classrooms through Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEEs). This course will take place all online while still being interactive and engaging by incorporating local experts, discussions with other course participants, and guided field investigations. Teachers participating in this course will walk away with a better understanding of how to relate environmental education topics to their students with the resources and skills obtained during the week. The course will be conducted remotely but will incorporate outdoor, inquiry-based investigation in your yard, neighborhood or local park.

Length & Location: 5 days; virtual  
Cost: $50 due to support from local funders. 
Credit:  Virginia teachers are eligible for documentation of 45 contact hours for successful course completion.
