Thanks for visiting my Chesapeake Bay Foundation "2021 Walk the Watershed" page. First, I'd like to thank all of you who supported me/CBF during our 2020 Walk the Watershed!
During the last crazy year, 2 things have remained important to me: staying healthy, and supporting CBF's mission to save the Bay. I'm pledging to get outside, walk the watershed, and spread the Save the Bay message every step of the way! My "Dough Rollers" teammates and I will collectively walk at least 200 miles between April 5 and May 15.
Many of you know that I've worked for CBF in Annapolis, MD for the last 15 years. I've stayed there this long because its mission is very important to me and the group of people I work with is truly amazing! Our mission to "Save the Bay" strives to improve the wellbeing of the 18 million people and 3,000 species of plants and animals throughout the watershed.
The Chesapeake Bay watershed spans more than 64,000 square miles and encompasses part of 6 states (NY, PA, DE, MD, VA & WV). In NY, it begins at Otsego Lake, near Cooperstown (NY). The Susquehanna, Potomac, Rappahannock, York and James rivers are all in that watershed. 100,000 streams, creeks and rivers thread through it as well.
Over the next few weeks, Jeff, River & Cole (our Labradors) and I hope to raise awareness and vital funding to support CBF's mission by walking our butts off!
CBF is funded mostly by individual donors like you and me. Even a $5 donation can help support CBF's on-the-water field experiences for students and teachers, tree plantings, oyster restoration, advocacy for stronger laws protecting the Bay, and litigation against polluters when necessary.
I hope you will support these efforts by donating to my page or by joining our team. Any amount you can afford to give would be appreciated.
Every gift makes a difference!
- $25 can plant five native trees as a streamside buffer.
- $50 can grow 5,000 native oysters.
- $140 can send two students for a day of learning in and around the Bay.
- $500 can build 10 reef balls which are effective and safe artificial homes for oysters.
